Cannot receive portal invite in CRM when using same domain email address

When the user tries to invite a contact to the customer portal with an email address sharing the same domain as the superadmin, the system will not allow it and throws this error:

"You can invite only customers/clients for this portal user type."
This is the expected behaviour as the portal was meant only for customers/clients. Those with the same domain are not considered customers/clients and thus was disallowed to do so. Hope that clarifies.
